Gerahmte Tafel

In der vorlesungsfreien Zeit können wir Ihnen im Bereich Linguistik eine weitere Übung als Block im BA/MA/MEd anbieten: English in the Philippines, 3 CP (VL-Nr. 050623).

Kurszeiten: 17.07.-20.07.2023, 9.30-12.30 Uhr
Dozentin: Prof. Dr. Meierkord
Raum: tba

This course focuses on the the history and current uses of English in the Philippines. We will start from a thorough introduction to its roots in the country’s past as a US American territory and to the status and functions of English and attitudes towards its various forms today.
Then, we will familiarize ourselves with the features which characterize the vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation of Philippine English.
Students will then concentrate particularly on code-switching between English and Tagalog (often referred to as Taglish, somewhat derogatorily), relating this to issues of identity construction, language contact, language policy and education.

Assessment/requirements: regular attendance in class and in two talks offered in the summer school "Philippines Migrations" (on 18.07.-20.07. and 24.07.-27.07., 14-14.45h), completion of a supplementary Moodle component; PLUS: BA: short presentation in class and during the summer school's final on July 28; MA/MEd: presentation in class and poster for the summer school's final on July 28.

If you want to take the course, please contact Olga Sadovnikova.

(Der Kurs ist Teil der Sommerakademie "Philippines: Perspectives. Summer School 2023" kann aber von Studierenden der Anglistik/Amerikanistik als eigenständiger Kurs im Linguistik-Modul belegt werden.)
