Are you interested in studying in Britain or Ireland for one semester or a whole academic year?

There are five British and five Irish universities that currently receive Erasmus students from RUB's English Department. In Great Britain, there is Cardiff University, the University of Hull, Newcastle University, the University of Nottingham and Leeds Trinity University. In Ireland, there is the University College Cork, the National University of Ireland Galway, the University of Limerick, the Technological University Dublin, and Trinity College Dublin.

As a standard, students leave for their exchange in the winter semester, normally around September. It is either possible to stay for one term (3-4 months) or to stay for the full academic year (8-9 months). The mobility scholarship granted by the Erasmus programme varies – usually between 450 and 600 Euros per month. Updated information about the current scholarship is accessible via the website of the International Office.

If you are interested in taking part in the exchange, please complete the application form (your personal details + the table concerning your motivation) and hand it in together with your current transcript of records ("Übersicht der Leistungsnachweise"). You can either a) hand in a hardcopy (printout) at the Servicezimmer/Auslandsberatung (GB 6/57) or the Geschäftszimmer (GB 6/162) (please check the departmental homepage for office hours); b) send a hardcopy by mail (Englisches Seminar - Auslandsberatung // Universitätsstraße 150 // Postfach 166 // 44801 Bochum); or c) send your application via email. Although you should point out your preferences in your application, there can be no guarantee that you will be awarded a place at your desired destination. Instead, you may also be offered a place at another university. Please indicate in your application whether you want to stay the full academic year or one semester only.

Please note that applications for the Erasmus exchange can only be accepted once a year: all students who wish to attend one of the universities mentioned above need to apply until 12 January 2024.
